Charlotte Charfen, MD (she/her)

Charlotte Charfen, MD (she/her), a board-certified emergency physician, trained at Henry Ford Hospital in‬‭ Detroit, Michigan. With over two decades of ER experience, she is passionate about wellness in‬  both life and death. Now based in rural North Hawaii, she balances emergency medicine with a‬‭ private practice specializing in end-of-life care and serious illness support. As the founder of the‬‭ non-profit‬‭ Life & Death Wellness‬‭, she has expanded‬‭ access to compassionate care by training‬‭ end-of-life doulas in her resource-limited region.‬

Inspired by her patients, Dr. Charfen explored the role of psychedelics in end-of-life care,‬‭ leading to her foundational PRATI training in 2021. A pioneer in her community, she introduced‬‭ ketamine therapy‬‭ as a safe, supportive option for‬‭ those facing terminal illness, working closely‬‭ with mental health providers to support patients and their loved ones. She believes embracing‬‭ mortality alongside mental and spiritual well-being is essential to living fully in every stage of life.‬

Through consulting, teaching, writing, and community program development, Dr. Charfen‬‭ continues transforming the conversation around life and death, empowering individuals to define‬‭ their path to wellness.‬
