Charlotte Charfen, MD (she/her)
Charlotte Charfen, MD (she/her), a board-certified emergency physician, trained at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. With over two decades of ER experience, she is passionate about wellness in both life and death. Now based in rural North Hawaii, she balances emergency medicine with a private practice specializing in end-of-life care and serious illness support. As the founder of the non-profit Life & Death Wellness, she has expanded access to compassionate care by training end-of-life doulas in her resource-limited region.
Inspired by her patients, Dr. Charfen explored the role of psychedelics in end-of-life care, leading to her foundational PRATI training in 2021. A pioneer in her community, she introduced ketamine therapy as a safe, supportive option for those facing terminal illness, working closely with mental health providers to support patients and their loved ones. She believes embracing mortality alongside mental and spiritual well-being is essential to living fully in every stage of life.
Through consulting, teaching, writing, and community program development, Dr. Charfen continues transforming the conversation around life and death, empowering individuals to define their path to wellness.
